Kauffman looks to get back in the Ring

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

kaufman3Travis Kauffman will be looking to be back in the ring at the end of July. The Reading heavyweight prospect will most likely be on the Showtime Network at the end of July. If Kauffman comes into the fight with the same aggression and confidence it should be a short night. This is a big change from 310 pounds a year ago. (221lbs.)

“Ice Advice,” for the young boxers out there…

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

scullyICE ADVICE: In my book, “The Iceman Diaries” the following bit of advice appears but, for all the amateurs and young professionals out there that might not have the patience to read my entire book, I wanted to put this advice from me to you in it’s own special space for all to see. It took me years and years of training and fighting, pain, worrying, thinking, straining, struggling, disappointments, joys, highs and lows, ups and downs to figure all this out. I didn’t always follow this advice, either, mainly because I didn’t realize much of it was so true until I gained the experience that I have now. Hindsight is truly 20/20. I can tell you this much now… It’s all a legitimate group of words for the aspiring boxer to take heed in. Every word of it. Because this is EXPERIENCE talking to you and, when it comes down to it, in my opinion anyway, it’s all true. Believe this:

Choosing the right Boxing Gym

Monday, June 15th, 2009

How do you know what gym to choose for yourself our for your son or daughter. Well you must first ask yourself what it is that you want out of a boxing gym. Do I want to move forward as a good amateur or a good professional or do I want to just do this as a hobby and get in shape.

These are just some of the questions that you need to ask yourself. Once you figured it out then you should be able to get an ideal of what kind of boxing gym it is that you should join. There are boxing gyms that are free of charge and then there are those that charge you a gym dues. Most of the time when you get something for free, it isn’t that good anyway. I found out that in life that when you have to pay for something, most of the time it is better for you anyway. (You only get what you pay for)

The other thing that should be important in finding a good boxing gym is seeing if the coaches that are in the gym have any back ground in training boxers and if so, what experience do they have and how long have they done it? Having a coach that does not know much about training a boxer can ruin a young kid more then help even if they have good intentions. The reason I say this, is that what happens is if they are not coached properly the kid would someday spar and when that happens they could get beat up and eventually discouraged. This does a lot of damage to a young boy or girl’s self esteem. The other thing that happens is they learn bad habits and once that happens, it takes a long time to correct those bad habits.

I hope this gives you a little bit of an understanding on how to go about looking for a good boxing gym. It is not all about the looks or the location, but what the gym produces. (Self Esteem & Confidence, & Respect)

Kauffman Crushes Castillo / MMA is a Knock Out!

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

tk0908Well for the first time ever in Pa, King’s Promotions hosted an 11 bout card that was mixed with amateur MMA along with some of the finest professional boxers in the State and maybe even the world with Travis Kauffman. The night started off with the boxing first as I wanted to allow those fans that are die hard boxing fans to be able to enjoy themselves and then have the choice to leave if they so desired. Well I saw a lot of people stay to watch the MMA fights. I was very surprised by how many people stayed to watch the MMA & I was surprised myself as too how much I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it so much that I actually would like to do a few more of them, but next time in a cage.

The boxing ended that night with a bang as Travis Kauffman stopped Livin Castillo faster then anyone has ever done in the past. Travis now moves to 17-0 (14 KOs). Travis came out a little slow in the first round as we knew that Castillo would come out swinging with bad intentions. Travis should great compose and a good chin as he ate some shots from Castillo early in round 1.
Travis then made a huge adjustment as he does in most fights and boxed him from a southpaw stance which I think threw him off and allowed Travis to start unleashing some heavy bombs on him. Travis had him out in round 2 but allowed the veteran to hold on and survive the round. In round 3 Travis wasted little time and took care of business by knocking him out at 1:26 of Rd. 3 which was actually 4 seconds faster then Oleg Maskaev

tk0979In the MMA part of the night we had some very competitive fights. The matchmaker Joseph Cunliffe did an outstanding job on making all of the fights very competitive. The Main Event of the MMA was Reading’s own Tony Williams who left all of the fans standing to their feet as he crushed his opponent Jim Gerner with a straight right hand that could not have been thrown any better. Over all it was a sensational night and we at King’s Promotions will be coming back in Sept. 2009

Cintron looks impressive at 154

Monday, June 1st, 2009

The minute that I heard that they made Kermit Cintron against Alfredo Angulo I knew that Kermit had a great chance of winning that fight. I also thought what a lucky guy to be given another chance after his last performance on HBO against Sergio Martinez.
It is funny how people say that you are only as good as your last fight, well Kermit proved them all wrong and he had the help of Angulo to do that.

Cintron vs AnguloI told a number of people when asked if Kermit would win, I told them that he had a great chance of winning and that the first 2rds. would show me how Kermit was going to fight. I knew that if Kermit took charge right from the beginning that he could have even stopped Angulo in the later rounds.

A writer asked me what I thought of the fight and I told him just that, and that Kermit was going to do well because Angulo only had 15 professional fights and has not been tested as Kermit has been. Angulo also got hit way too much to beat Kermit, and I knew that once Kermit hit him flush that he was going to respect Kermits power and not take risky chances and this is why Angulo helped because I believe that he was afraid to take chances. I always tell everyone, as I always did and always will, that Kermit has the skills and the power to beat any boxer in his weight class if his mind is right.

His mind was right on Sat. night and he deserves credit for how he boxed and how good he rolled from the right hand and left hooks of Angulo. Angulo was too slow and too inexperienced for Kermit. I have just 2 things to say to Kermit for that win, congratulations and please start saying Reading again and not Wyomissing. :)
Congrats!
